Lutchmedial slams Independent Senator over ‘fish market’ comment

Opposition Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial has taken Impartial Senator Anthony Vieira to task for remarks he produced with regards to the Law enforcement Company Fee (PSC) imbroglio.

Responding to his feedback in the Saturday Convey, Lutchmedial accused the Unbiased Senator of displaying bias and ignorance of points.

In a assertion, she stated Vieira seemingly adopted the present-day administration’s “style of attacking users of the Opposition with baseless and unsubstantiated accusations sent with aristocratic condescension”.

Lutchmedial urged the Unbiased Senator to go through the motion submitted by Opposition chief Kamla Persad-Bissessar and all the data in the public area bordering the PSC debacle, alternatively than “parroting PNM propaganda”.

She explained: “This could give an chance to training some independent considered on significant issues influencing the state, in its place of commenting on the behaviour of others with sanctimonious piety.”

Lutchmedial continued: “If the Impartial Senators desires to examine critical matters in whispered tones about tea and crumpets, they can do that on their individual time. The UNC will have its voice listened to inside of and outside the house of the Parliament. They can mute our mikes but not our voices.”

“The Parliament is not a put to shield your colleagues, who see no challenge with pursuing private interests by voting versus the establishment of a tribunal to investigate issues which require achievable wrongdoing by their sibling, but who abstain from voting on issues that have an effect on the countrywide desire like the gutting of the Procurement Act,” she added.

Making reference to Vieira’s documented “fish market” comment – his description of past Thursday’s proceedings in the Parliament to impeach the President – the Opposition explained the aforementioned behaviour is even worse than any precise fish sector.

She claimed the Opposition won’t be intimidated by these kinds of responses.

“Senator Veira considers the pounding desks and becoming persistent in verbal protests towards the undemocratic conduct of proceedings as remaining unbecoming of Parliamentarians, but is relaxed with calling citizens “idiots”. The Opposition Senate bench will not be intimidated by the pomp and conceitedness of anyone who no one particular voted for, and who refuses to stand for what is ideal and just,” she explained.

The Opposition Senator explained it would seem that Senator Vieira is “eager to be a part of the PNM campaign to silence the voice of the Opposition as opposed to looking for solutions on behalf of the population”.

She stated, nonetheless, that the Opposition stays fully commited to its duty, notwithstanding “any misguided diatribes emanating from individuals who conceal at the rear of the fig leaf of an impartial title”.
